The official launching of the torch for the 2019 Pacific Games was held at the Mulivai Cathedral yesterday.
Samoa Observer reports the torch was lit after a church service to officially mark the start of the 2019 Pacific Games torch relay.

Samoan Minister of Education, Sports and Culture (M.E.S.C.) and Pacific Games Committee Chairman, Loau Keneti Sio, it was a great privilege for Samoa to host the sixteenth edition of the Pacific Games and the official lighting of the torch signifies the start of the Games.

Samoa has also launched the $10 Commemorative Note for #Samoa2019 XVI Pacific Games. The Central Bank of Samoa has designed and prepared the 10 Tala Commemorative Note that will be in circulation in time for the Games. The new note design celebrates Samoa’s youth and sporting legacy. The images on the note depict their daily lives and the realisation of their sporting dreams.

Loau says Beijing 2008 Olympics silver medalist, Ele Opeloge, has been selected to light the torch at the official opening ceremony, as more than 900 people have been chosen to run with the torch, the torch bearers have been selected from students of primary schools, colleges, national athletes as well as sponsors of the Games.
