In the Pacific, mangrove habitats are acknowledged to be important, to the traditional lifestyles of its people.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, at a beach clean up said – despite the considerable importance  of mangroves to Fijian society, their  sustainable management has only recently been given the  attention it deserves, and currently faces many constraints. 
Mangroves provide natural adaptation to the effects of climate change, serve as natural insurance against climate change, and contribute towards the global reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Nagata urged that people should step forward, and take responsibility of their actions, and stop acts like the dumping of their rubbish, into the ocean.
