Another 10 people have died over the weekend in French Polynesia’s Covid-19 pandemic.

The latest figures of the health authorities show the death toll has reached 49.

88 people with Covid-19 symptoms are in hospital, including 23 in intensive care.

All but 62 of the 10,680 cases were detected after the borders were reopened in July and mandatory quarantine requirements were abolished to boost tourism.

A curfew is in force in Tahiti and Moorea to curb the spread of the infection.

A strike has been called in the education sector tomorrow to secure stricter measures in the fight against the pandemic.

Unions say there are not enough masks for students, it’s impossible to ensure proper distancing and to air all rooms.
