Over the past four months, the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has undertaken planned structural strengthening works on the Tamavua-i-wai Bridge on Queens Road outside Suva.
During this time there has been reduced vehicle weight restrictions in place.
The strengthening works were finished in November and an independent engineering assessment has been completed.
The FRA is pleased to announce that the temporary weight restrictions will be lifted as of 8pm on Saturday 8th December 2018.
The weight restriction will return to the former level: 16T axle set limit and 32T Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) or Gross Combination Mass (GCM) at all times
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) have committed to remain at the Tamavua-i-wai Bridge and continue the enforcement of these weight restrictions.
If there is the requirement to transport combination vehicles with a heavier GCM than 32T then an exemption will be required.
The process for obtaining an exemption starts by submitting a completed LTA Overweight Vehicle Exemption Form to FRA clearly specifying the vehicle configuration (with a specifications sheet), date and time of transportation as well as the gross combination weight of the vehicle.
For an exemption to be granted, vehicles must meet the NZTA vehicle dimensions and mass requirements which can be found at the following website:
If an exemption is approved, then the overweight vehicle movement must occur during night time operations with the bridge configured for one way traffic flow.
This must be coordinated with LTA and the Police.
