TD04F developed into a Tropical Depression at 9pm last night.

Over the last 18hrs, TD04F continues to slowly intensify.

A “Tropical Cyclone Warning” remains in force for Rotuma.
A “Tropical Cyclone Alert” remains in force for the Fiji Group.
A “Gale Warning” remains in force for Rotuma.
A “Strong Wind Warning” remains in force for the Fiji Group.
A “Heavy Rain Warning” remains in force for Yasawa and Mamanuca Group, Viti Levu, Lomaiviti Group, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and northern Lau Group.
A “Heavy Rain Alert” remains in force for the rest of the Fiji Group.

Tropical Depression TD04F was located near 11.9 south latitude, 173.0 east longitude or about 450km west of Rotuma and about 810km northwest of Nadi at 6am today. Close to its centre TD04F is expected to have average winds of up to 45km/hr with momentary gusts to 80km/hr.
TD04F is moving east at about 20km/hr. TD04F is expected to gradually intensify into a category 1 cyclone by later today.

TD04F is expected to gradually turn towards the southeast and move at about 20km/hr in the next 24hrs. On this forecast track the centre is expected to be located about 160km south of Rotuma or about 360km northwest of Labasa at 6am tomorrow and about 40km east-northeast of Labasa at 6pm tomorrow.

Threat for Rotuma and Fiji:

For Rotuma:
Expect moderate to fresh northerly winds. Winds expected to become strong with average speeds of 45km/hr with momentary gusts to 65km/hr from this afternoon and further increase to damaging gale force winds with average speeds of 65km/hr and momentary gusts to 95km/hr from tonight. Periods of rain, heavy at times and squally thunderstorms. Sea flooding should be expected along coastal areas especially during high tides on the onset of gale force winds.

For Fiji:
Expect moderate to fresh east to southeast winds. Winds expected to become strong with average speeds of 45km/hr with momentary gusts to 65km/hr from this afternoon and further increase to damaging gale force winds with average speeds of 65km/hr and momentary gusts to 95km/hr from tomorrow. Occasional rain with isolated heavy falls. Rain expected to become frequent and heavy with squally thunderstorms from later today.

The following information is provided especially for the mariners:

For Rotuma:
Expect northerly winds 20 to 30 knots. rough to very rough seas. moderate to heavy northwesterly swells. Winds expected to further increase up to 35 knots from later today with very rough to high seas and damaging northwesterly swells.

For Fiji Waters:
Easterly winds 20 to 30 knots. Rough to very rough seas. Winds expected to further increase up to 35 knots from tomorrow with high seas and damaging northwesterly swells.
