Gale force winds associated with category two tropical cyclone Sarai is expected to clear from today afternoon.
TC Sarai is expected to exit Fiji waters by today afternoon moving towards Tonga.
Associated damaging gale force winds should clear Ono-i-Lau by tomorrow morning.
TC Sarai is anticipated to weaken and downgrade to a category 1 system as it moves further away from Fiji.
At 4 pm yesterday, TC Sarai was located near 20.7 south latitude, 178.1 west longitude or about 65km east of Ono-i-Lau or 210km south-southeast of Kabara.
Close to its center TC Sarai is expected to have average winds of up to 95km/hr with momentary gusts to 130km/hr.
TC Sarai is moving east- southeast at about 11km/hr.
In anticipation of this, the following warnings remain in force:
A“Gale Warning” remains in force for Komo, Kabara, Namuka-i-Lau, Ogea, Fulaga, Vatoa and Ono-i-Lau.
A “Strong Wind Warning” remains in force for Matuku, Moala, Totoya, Vanuavatu, Nayau, Lakeba, Oneata and Moce, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Lomaiviti Group and the rest of Lau Group.
The “Strong Wind Warning” previously in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Beqa, Vatulele, Viti Levu and nearby smaller islands, Yasawa and Mamanuca Group are now canceled.
A “Heavy Rain Warning” remains in force for central and Southern Lau Group but is now canceled for Kadavu.
