The National Disaster Management Office is advising the general public to be prepared and take heed of the flood alert and heavy rain warning that has been issued by the Fiji Meteorological Services.
Fijians residing in low lying areas should take heed of the warning and make preparations to evacuate to higher grounds well before flood waters rise.
Parents and teachers are advised to monitor the whereabouts of children at all times and to keep them away from flooded drains or waterways.
All parents are also advised to cautiously assess the weather conditions and use their own discretion before sending their children to school and ensure proper supervision of their children if they are at home and to keep them away from flooded areas or playing outside.
NDMO states a general flood alert is issued for small streams and low lying areas for the whole of Fiji and the heavy rain conditions will continue in the next few days.
The public is is advised to prepare and keep a family emergency kit at all times.
