The “7th Korean Ambassador’s Cup” Taekwondo Championship – will be held at the Khatriya Hall in Suva, on Sunday.
The “Korean Ambassador’s Cup” Taekwondo Championship – has been initiated by the Korean Embassy since 2013, to nurture Taekwondo talents in Fiji and the Pacific Region.
Taekwondo is a traditional Korean martial arts, and an official Olympic event.
Taekwondo consists of the Chinese character – “to stomp, trample”, kwon “fist”, and do “way, discipline”.
The competition will feature two categories: “Sparring and Poomsae” – a series of attacking and defensive movements, against an imaginary opponent.
Medals will be awarded to the winners of each category, including the “Most Valuable Player” at the end of the Competition.
This event aims to elevate Fiji’s Taekwondo practitioner’s skills, and contribute to foster future Olympic medalists of Fiji.
Furthermore, the competition could act as a catalyst, for more people to learn and practice Taekwondo in Fiji, and deepen their understanding on Korea and its culture.
