Eight students from various schools in Suva were part of the Launch of the FIRST Global Challenge held at the University of the South Pacific Laucala Campus Today.
USP is once again Participating in the International Robotics Competition organized by the FIRST Global Higher Education Network for high school students.
USP through the Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering has been Partnering with the organization to organize teams from the Pacific.
The FIRST Global Challenge invites countries to send a team to compete in their robotics Olympics, which takes place in a different Nation each year.
It was a proud moment for Darius Pillay, the Year 13 Student of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial High School to be selected for the Challenge from his school and his aiming to do his best and learn as much as he can.
USP Vice Chancellor-Professor Pal Ahluwalia Congratulated and encouraged all the Students to do their Best and was also impressed that more female students were part of the Challenge this year.
The training will be conducted by the USP staff in the next two months, will feature lessons on how to design, construct, and program a robot for a sports-like competition using a standard kit of components. 8 Teams from the Pacific will take part in the First Global Challenge that will held in Dubai in October.
First Global is a non-profit organization that promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and mathematics education and careers for youth through Olympics-style robotics competitions called the FIRST Global Challenge.
