A student in her 20s is alleged to have been driving a vehicle that resulted in the death of a woman in her 40s.
The alleged incident occurred along the Queens Road near Naevuevu in Sigatoka on Saturday morning.
The victim from Navutulevu in Serua was a passenger with four others who were traveling to Nadi, when the suspect allegedly lost control of the vehicle causing it to veer off the road and bumped the steel railings by the side of the road.
The victim was rushed to the Sigatoka Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The other four passengers all of Navutulevu in Serua were treated and sent home.
The suspect is in custody as investigations continue.
The road death toll currently stands at 11 compared to 8 for the same period last year.
