A report from the Fiji Police Force Crime statistics shows that from January to December of last year there was a total of 115 completed suicide cases and 98 attempted incidents.
48 of these completed incidents and 54 attempted were from the Western Division alone.
83 of these completed suicides were above the age of 26 and the statistics shows that more males are dying from suicide than females.
In that a total of 86 males completed suicide with 55 attempted cases last year.
According to the report 92 of these complete suicidal deaths were Fijians of Indian descent, 21 were Itaukei and 2 were others.
From January to April of this year the report shows that there is a total of 28 completed suicides with 35 attempted cases.
11 of these cases were from the western division, eight from the north, six were from the south and three from the eastern division.
As per the report , 13 people who died were above 26 years of age.
15 completed cases and 13 attempted were females where as 13 completed suicide and 22 attempted were males.
The report shows that 20 completed cases and 26 attempted were Fijians of Indian descent and 8 completed suicide and 7 attempted cases were Itaukei.
Both reports shows an increasing number of complete suicidal deaths in the Western Division with more males dying than females and significantly many of these cases were Fijian of Indian Descent.
