The Fiji National Sports Commission with FASANOC and the Ministry of Sports advises that all sporting tournaments and competitions be postponed until next year due to the measles outbreak in the country.
The Fiji National Sports Commission is determined to put health and safety first after the Ministry of Health and Medical Services released a statement requesting the “avoidance of holding or attending large gatherings of people, especially in the Central Division, but also those that brings participants from across the country or overseas.

Therefore the Ministry of Sports, Fiji National Sports Commission with FASANOC are advising that all National Sporting Organisations, Sporting Federations, Sports Association and Sports Clubs, postpone their sporting events or competitions happening from this month until January 2020- until further notice.
The Commission are requesting that all sports organisers take all the necessary action of this advisory notice to assist with the Ministry of Health in their efforts to control the spread of the measles outbreak.
Ministry of Youth and Sports Permanent Secretary, Maretino Nemani strongly advises members of the public to take heed of such advise as the measles outbreak can be quite contagious in populated or mass gathering areas.
There are currently 15 confirmed cases of people who have contracted the measles virus in Fiji.
