Pacific Games Council are positive about the progress being made by Solomon Islands 2023 as they prepare to stage the next edition of the Pacific Games.
China has stepped in to bankroll the construction of the main stadium for the 2023 Pacific Games in the Solomon Islands, after the host nation struggled to fund the project.
China is taking over the funding of the stadium from Taiwan/Chinese Taipei, which had previously pledged to provide it.
Last month, the Solomon Islands broke diplomatic ties with Taipei, in order to establish relations with China.
Lakhan, together with CEO, Andrew Minogue, visited Honiara to assess the state of preparations for the Solomon Islands 2023 Pacific Games.
The Pacific Games is the largest sporting event in the region, with Solomon Islands to host it for the first time in 2023.
Lakhan says the financing would be in the form of a grant.
China will step in to fund a $AUD74 million stadium for the 2023 Pacific Games, in place of Taiwan.
Lakhan said the expectation of the Games Council is that all new facilities will be built before the deadline.
