Setareki Ratatagia who allegedly murdered a fellow villager has been further remanded in custody by the Suva High Court.

Ratatagia allegedly assaulted the man when he was waiting for a boat at the village seawall.

The alleged incident happened in Namuka, Bau in Tailevu in February..

The victim was rushed to the Nausori Health Centre where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Ratatagia appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar this morning.

Justice Goundar questioned Defense Lawyer David Toganivalu on weather his client was willing to take a guilty plea on a lesser charge of manslaughter.

Toganivalu told court that he was willing to plead guilty to manslaughter, and wanted to make representations to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution’s by this Friday.

Justice Goundar told Defense that it was entirely up to the state to accept the guilty plea of manslaughter, after which the court would proceed.

The matter will now be called on the 27th of July, to access whether the accused will go with the lesser charge.
