Science is telling us that urban and infrastructure system transition consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius would imply changes in land and urban planning practices, as well as deeper emissions reductions in transport and buildings.
This was highlighted by the COP 23 Climate Champion and Minister for Defence, Inia Seruiratu while opening the Business and Industry Day event at the International Conference Centre in Katowice, Poland.
“The following measures need to be taken by 2050 – businesses will need to reduce emissions by 75- 90 percent compared to 2010, the electricity share of energy demand in buildings will need to reduce by 55 – 75 percent, the transport sector will need to increase the share of low emission final energy from less than 5 percent in 2020 to about 35 – 65 percent in 2050.”
