Adi Katonitabua and Adi Moana were released this week back into the ocean.
The turtles release marked and commemorated the World Oceans Day that was celebrated in Lautoka this week.
Batibasaga further added that sea turtles although a cultural icon, have been affected by the commercialization of our cultural tradition, which has adversely affected our sea turtle population.
He says that we have important roles to play as good citizens of Fiji and urges all Fijians to make informed decisions so that we are able to protect our sea turtles well into the future.
Acting Permanent Secretary for Fisheries, Naipote Katonitabua tagged,named and released the turtles into the ocean.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Fisheries continues to work with communities, hotels and resorts in turtle conservation efforts.
