The Seventh Day Adventist Church stands by their decision to shut down Vatuvonu SDA College in Vanua Levu.

General Secretary – Joe Talemaitoga says the shutdown in two weeks time will affect about 180 students.

He says the stand comes after the recent appointment of a Non-Adventist as head of the College by the Education Ministry.

This is after they had given names of College heads that were members of the Adventist Church and qualified through the Open Merit Recruitment System, however the Education Ministry appointed the best person who was a non-Adventist.

Talemaitoga has emphasized once again the need when it comes to faith, SDA will stand by its decisions to have that in grained in the Culture of the school.

Minister for Education-Rosy Akbar in response says she respects the decision of the SDA Church and remains committed to ensuring that the students’ access education and the teachers continue to inspire students in and outside the classroom
