The Republic of Fiji Military Forces Engineers applied damage control process for the Vuci Methodist Primary School restoration plan on Tuesday 19th February 2019.

The RFMF Engineers Operations Officer, Major Sanaila Vutikalulu stated that they received their directive to immediately complete phase two then undertake phase three of the primary school’s restoration plan later. “We received a directive on Monday night to undertake phase two of the Vuci Methodist School restoration plan to ensure that students return to school immediately,” he said. He added that while they were working on phase one, they were also preparing the scope of work for phase three.

The School Head Teacher, Jope Bukacaca stated that the initial plan of the school was to use government grant but it was later eliminated.

“Our initial plan was to utilize the government grant to partition the school hall to ensure the immediate return of students to school then commence phase two by building a temporary shelter for classes three and five. However the Minister and Permanent Secretary for Education decided that phase one of the project be eliminated and works for phase two of the restoration plan must begin,” he said.

Bukacaca added that phase two of the restoration plan includes the building of a temporary classrooms for years 3 and 5 that provides a friendly educational environment for students which may accommodate classes for a span of six to 12 months.

The RFMF Engineers are working around the clock to ensure the immediate return of students to school.

Bukacaca who expressed his appreciation on the contribution provided by the RFMF Engineers and Government stated that students will commence classes today.

A total of nine (9) RFMF Engineers personnel led by Corporal Wame Tuivuya were deployed to the school to undertake works on the restoration plan.
