Seven females from the various unit of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) participated in the Inter-unit shooting competition at Classification Range in Vatuwaqa on the 22 January 2020.
The inter-unit shooting competition is to familiarize each participants with infantry weapon to assist during operational tasking and at the same time prepare potential candidate to represent the RFMF for the Australian Army Skills at Arms Meet (AASAM) competition.
Lance Corporal (LCpl) Elani Vunisaqa a female soldier who joined the RFMF stated that being selected to be part of the team representing the logistic unit was indeed an honour.
“I am really happy to represent my unit this year and I will do my best to cope with what we have learned in the last four days of preparation to meet the military standard that is required to equip every individual soldier.” LCpl Vunisaqa said.
She further stated that she enjoyed being part of the competition for the first time and was extremely to have been given the opportunity to participate.
Also part of the Fiji Navy team for the competition was Ordinary Seaman (OS) Api Takele . OS Takele recruited into the RFMF Naval division in 2018 and works as a logistic officer at the Stanley Brown Naval Base. She stated that the competition came as an eye-opener for her and was grateful that she was considered to represent the Navy team.
My work as a naval logistics officer was to do with the demanding of the office equipment and stationaries to cater to the smooth operation of all officers within the Fiji Naval Ship Stanley Brown in Walu.
She concluded that it has been a long time since her last to fire a weapon and it has been a very big challenge for her. The inter-unit shooting competition will end
