The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commodore Viliame Naupoto apologises to the people of Lautoka for the events that transpired in Lautoka this morning.
Soldiers were photographed holding guns outside the FNPF office in Lautoka.
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces was requested by police to assist with security at the FNPF office in Lautoka to ensure that people are safe to conduct their business.
Speaking to Fiji One News, Commander of the RFMF Commodore Viliame Naupoto says they are responsible for the safety and security of State assets.
This includes the Water Authority of Fiji reservoirs, government transmission lines, Energy Fiji Limited sites, beacons and other vital assets.
Commodore Naupoto said soldiers looking after these assets are armed.
For now military personnel assisting police at the FNPF office in Lautoka are unarmed.
Commander Naupoto says RFMF is assisting in multiple operations in relation to crowd control and other situations which the Fiji Police Force is in charge of.
