The Rewa Football side has moved its focus against Lautoka in the Vodafone Premier League after a draw against Suva last weekend.
Coach Marika Rodu said they were preparing for last two matches of the competition after the Covid-19 restrictions were uplifted.
“Our focus was against the two Capital City sides and against Suva it’s done and dusted and now focus is on Lautoka,” said Rodu
The former rep after the Suva match said he has to work more on finishing aspect of game as his strikers failed to utilize the opportunities.
“Our strikers were not aggressive enough as they failed to score against Suva,”
“The hunger was not there because the strikers were hesitant in finding the target, “he said.
Rodu said the absence of strikers Samuela Nabenia and Bruce Hughes was felt in the match.
“We did not have Nabenia and Bruce due suspension in the match against Suva but we will be fortunate to have Nabenia back against Lautoka so we will have options in the striking force,” said Rodu.
“We managed the ball well but were not aggressive enough to create the problem upfront and this will be something I will work out this week to face Lautoka,” said Rodu
He said he was aware of the strength in the Lautoka side and would fully prepare to make the impact on the points table.
“Lautoka is a very good side under their new coach Ravinesh Kumar but we want to keep our consistency and top the points table as this will be our last match of Round one,” the former national rep said.
Rodu said they had not yet put their focus in Round Two.
Our focus at the moment is on round one and we want to stay on top of the table so a win is a must,” said Rodu.
Kumar said fitness was a major factor for Lautoka like other teams as well.
“For Lautoka, I have a lot of work to be done in the fitness area and then only the team work and strategy that we want to apply into the game will take place, “Kumar said
“Otherwise we will be under pressure if the team is not fit. Rewa is a very good team with Marika joining them and they have former under 20 players, the Olympians together with senior players like Simione Tamanisau.”
The Rewa vs Lautoka match will be the top of the table clash this Sunday at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori at 1pm.
