The role of public-private partnership in the component of the flood mitigation measures play an integral role while protecting communities against the growing threat of flooding.
This was relayed by the Minister for Waterways and Environment Dr. Mahendra Reddy while commissioning the Emergency Desilting work of Korovatu Floodgate Outlet and Bucaisau River, in Korovatu Labasa.
Once the same waterways provided villages with food and nutrition, now it is a threat.
Minister for Waterways and Environment Dr. Mahendra Reddy said while de silting may not solve the issue of flooding, it can possibly help quicken the time frame at which water flows out.
Now more than ever it is important to preserve our natural resources.
He says it is the responsibility of the community to keep the waterways clear, for the free flow of water during the heavy downpour.
Dr. Reddy also acknowledged the involvement of private sectors, who will be carrying out the Emergency Creek De-silting works for the flood mitigation purpose around the country, free of cost.
