Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, National Disaster Management and Meteorological Services permanent secretary, Meleti Bainimarama officiated at the handing over of gifts on behalf of the Government to the Children’s Ward at the Savusavu Hospital on Tuesday this week.
Bainimarama took the time to visit and share the spirit of Fiji Day with the children who were admitted in the hospital as well as those who had come for their clinics.
He also visited a group of women volunteers who had assisted the hospital by sewing bed-sheets and pillow cases.
They are not paid for their services and donations are made for the purchase of sheets and to fund their traveling expenses to the hospital.
It was indeed a memorable Fiji Day celebration as Bainimarama got to talk to some parents and medical officials at the Savusavu Hospital.
Meanwhile, the national Fiji Day celebration was held at the Subrail Park in Labasa yesterday and thousands of Fijians turned up to celebrate the 48th year of Fiji’s independence.
