Today Minister for Health and Medical Services Rosy Akbar officiated the launching of the Eye Care Nurses Scope of Practice in collaboration with World Eye Sight Day.
She says this is a milestone achievement in Fiji’s efforts to provide and promote health care.
With the theme “Eye Care Everywhere” this will provide nurses the platform to raise awareness on the importance of good eye vision.
She adds that diabetes is one major cause of eye impairment and that early detection is very important to help an individual from losing their eye sight.
Also speaking at the launch was the Pacific Eye Institute Regional Education Manager, Pawan Baral.
He says that through this partnership, specialist nurses have been trained.
He adds that the purpose of training was to develop the human resources for eye care in Fiji and the Pacific.
