The President His Excellency Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote will officially launch one of Government’s new national priorities to plant 4 Million Trees in 4 Years this morning.

The event, which will take place at the Presidential compound in Suva at 11.00A.M., will see Fiji’s first citizen along with the Minister for Forestry, Honourable Osea Naiqamu, plant the first trees under this initiative.

The 4-Million Trees-in-4 Years initiative is part of Government’s renewed effort to continue the fight against climate change and to protect Fiji’s environment and rich biodiversity. It will also reduce soil erosion and siltation while offsetting some of the Nation’s carbon output.

Ministry of Forestry Permanent Secretary Pene Baleinabuli said the initiative will also contribute to the sustainable management of Fiji’s forest resources and increase the forestry sector’s contribution to the Nation’s economic growth.

“This should have a positive impact on the lives of the communities that rely on the forestry sector. It should also benefit the Nation, as a whole,” he said.
