The President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote did not mince his words when he urged the people of Rotuma to change their lifestyles.
President Konrote who is currently on a tour of his island home in Rotuma has expressed his concern on the unhealthy lifestyles that are the cause of Non Communicable Diseases amongst Fijians.
“Sadly, the Fijian government spends close to $406m annually for NCD related ailments in Fiji.
This money could be better spent elsewhere such as building new roads and infrastructure, new schools and hospitals,” President Konrote said.
“I would like to talk to you on the need for us to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Fiji has an abundance of resources where we can grow healthy food. We need to change our habits by eating the right food, exercising daily and going to sleep on time,” H.E President Konrote said.
“As the Head of State and Chief Advocate in the fight against Non-Communicable Disease, I would like to see a healthy Fiji. My vision is to have a country where people are not plagued with NCDs. A healthy nation is a productive nation.”
Motusa Primary School board member Onisimo Managreve thanked President Konrote for his words of wisdom to the students and parents of the school.
“We are so fortunate to have you in our midst today. Your message will be our guidance as we pursue living a healthy life and protecting our environment in the fight against climate change,” Managreve said.
“We pray that our heavenly father will pour out his blessings in your official duty as the Head of State of our nation.”
