Members of the Judiciary, Disciplined Forces, Sporting Legends and Local Entertainers were among 33 #Fijian men and women who were awarded 50th Anniversary of Independence Commemorative medals.
His Excellency, the President Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote, speaking at the 9th Special Investiture ceremony held at the State House today, highlighted that these Fijians are rewarded accordingly for their individual and collective efforts at nation-building.
President Konrote said that despite the #COVID19 pandemic, Fijians can still rejoice and celebrate certain events in life such as the 50th Independence Anniversary celebrations by being positive and having a firm faith in the Almighty.
He stressed that the present COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound effect on plans to commemorate on a larger scale and to hold national celebrations for this important milestone in #Fiji’s young history, resulting in a somewhat scaled down overall national celebrations programme.
Some notable Fijians who received the honour include Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili, Resident Magistrate Chaitanya Lakshman, former Acting Commissioner of Police Ravi Narayan, Ms Shobhna Chanel, Ms Shaenaz Voss and local entertainers Ms Laisa Vulakoro and Seru Serevi.More Fijians will be awarded in the Special Investiture ceremony at the State House
