The President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote attended the 47th National Day for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) held at the Grand Pacific Hotel this evening.
Also in attendance were cabinet ministers, senior government officials and members of the diplomatic corp.
The UAE National Day is a designated date throughout the world on which the celebrations marks the nationhood.
The UAE, became independent on 2nd December 1971.
Non-Resident Ambassador to United Arab Emirates to Fiji His Excellency Mr. Saleh Ahmed Alsuwaidi while speaking at the celebrations commended the long-standing diplomatic relations shared between the two countries UAE and Fiji.
In response, Chief of Protocol Jonetani Tagivetaua says after 8 years of the establishment of our diplomatic relations, Fiji greatly values the relationship and deeply appreciates the important role that UAE has played in Fiji and the region.
Fiji and UAE has strengthened relations through the finalisation of a number of MOU’s/MOAs, the recent one being the MOU with the UAE Red Crescent to support the Government’s Adopt a School Program signed last month in Fiji.
