Local towns and cities festivals will be regulated by the Ministry of Local Government to ensure transparency of operations and that public funds are accounted for.

This was revealed by the Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar during a press conference today.

“I’m starting fresh with this beauty contest. Starting with the various towns and cities and we’re working on our regulations because such festivals needs to be regulated. Because at the end of the day its public funds and it needs to be accounted for,”she said.

Kumar added that municipalities should be rest assured that this years Fiji Pageant will take place following the appointment of the Pageant Chairman Div Damodar and his committee.

The minister also stated that the 2018 winners also have the opportunity to contest at this years Fiji Pageant.

So far five towns and cities have confirmed that  both the 2018 and 2019 winners will be participating.

The Fiji pageant is expected to be held at the Suva Civic Auditorium from the 18th to the 23rd of November  with 17 confirmed contestants.
