The National Sugar Sector Policy Consultations that was planned from the 8th to the 11th of January 2019 – has been postponed, due to the Tropical Cyclone Mona warnings.

The Ministry of Sugar industry advises all Sugarcane Growers – that the consultations will be held at a later date.

The Ministry of Sugar Industry together with the Fiji Sugar Corporation, the Sugar Cane Growers Council, the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji, the Sugar Cane Growers Fund, the South Pacific Fertilisers Ltd, and the Sugar Industry Tribunal – have all confirmed that the sugarcane growers consultations in the Northern Division, has been postponed to a later date.

The purpose of the consultations is to seek inputs and suggestions from sugarcane growers, on development of the National Sugar Industry Policy and Strategies, on the following areas – and any other concerns that growers may have.

Permanent Secretary for Sugar – Yogesh Karan confirms, that the postponement is due to adverse weather conditions, and they will advise farmers on the new consultation dates later.
