As Fiji celebrates 141 years since the arrival of first Girmitiyas to Fiji, Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama yesterday met with Mr Sundar Lal and his wife Saraswati Lal of Nakomoco settlement in Rewa, both descendants of Girmitiyas.
Mr and Mrs Lal, both in their 70s, shared their stories and life struggles during those challenging times in the past, however, they now proudly call #Fiji their own home 🇫🇯
The Head of Government paid homage to the contribution made by the Girmitiyas to the Fijian economy and the very fabric of the Fijian society.
Minister for Education, Heritage and Arts Hon. Rosy Akbar and Permanent Secretary to the Office of the Prime Minister Mr Yogesh Karan also accompanied the Prime Minister.
