Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse or Incest and Child Neglect are the most common cases of Child Abuse Reported.
This was revealed by the Ministry of Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation during their 2013-2017 Annual Report Submission to the Standing Committee on Social Affairs in Parliament yesterday.
Department of Women’s -Senior Administration officer-Semisi Siga revealed there was 777 cases of violence against women age 18 years or more in 2017 the highest ever recorded. This was according to Records provided by the Fiji Police Force
Statistics also show that the Western Division recorded the highest number of Violence against Women and Children by Divisions in 2017 with 392 cases.
And With the Inception of the Child Helpline in 2015, they have so far recorded over 5,571 Genuine Calls to date with Majority of the Cases being referred to the Ministry for action or to the Police.
