The Pacific Disability Forum will focus on a “Regional Accessibility Blueprint” for people living with Disability.
This was confirmed by the Forum’s CEO-Setareki Macanawai while sharing on some of the major Projects his organization will be undertaking this year.
According to Fiji’s Population Census 2017 Report-about 13% of people live with some form of Disability in Fiji.
Macanawai says we need to look at our buildings, our transportation systems, our information communication technology they are not accessible, and countries do not have a guideline.
He added some of our buildings codes are either out dated or don not even exist. So we would like to do a Regional Accessibility Blueprint that countries can use or adapt to suit their local needs.
According to the World Health Organization Report about 1.5 Million people in the Pacific Region live with some form of Disability.
