Otago have handed Northern Districts another loss in the men’s domestic T20 cricket competition.

The Volts have hung on to win by two wickets in Mount Maunganui, surviving a late collapse to reach their target of 154 with two balls to spare.Hamish Rutherford guided the Otago Volts to a record 249-3.

Black Caps T20 opener Tim Seifert continued his good run of form with 74 off 58 for the home side, while Hamish Rutherford was key to the successful chase with 49 off 28.

In the women’s match at the same venue, Otago prevailed by six wickets in a rain-affected contest to claim their first win of the competition.

Chasing 102 to win off 13 overs, the Sparks secured victory from the second ball of the final over.

White Ferns all-rounder Hayley Jensen provided the impotus for Otago, belting 32 off just 17 balls, while Caitlin Blakely hit an unbeaten 32 off 24.
