Olympic Day was celebrated yesterday by the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee together with Oceania National Olympic Committee staff.

Olympic Day was introduced
in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on 23 June, 1894.

The goal was to promote
participation in sport across the globe regardless of age, gender or athletic
ability.

Olympic Day was celebrated all around 206 Olympic committees yesterday.

Hundreds of thousands of
people – young and old – participate in sports activities, but COVID-19
restrictions has limited this to a few nations.

International Olympic
President Thomas Bach says the value of sports is needed during this difficult
time.

Oceania National Olympic
Committees President Dr.Robin Mitchell was also part of the celebration today.

FASANOC chief executive
officer Lorraine Mar acknowledged the work by the volunteers and athletes.

Olympic Day is not only a celebration, but an international effort to promote fitness and well-being in addition to the Olympic ideals of Fair Play, Perseverance, Respect and Sportsmanship.
