It was a wonderful occasion for these hardworking farmers to realise some fruits of their toil very early since humble beginning when they first formed their association.

Minister for Industry, Trade, Tourism, Land and Mineral Resources Faiyaz Siddiq Koya graced the occasion with government’s blessings, acknowledging the efforts of farmers in the Tailevu North region.

He didn’t fall short of urging them on venturing to new areas of farming diversification in particular to assist the tourism sector.

“I therefore remind everyone, especially Co-operative businesses to look at the bigger picture,” he said.

“You are not only forming businesses to improve your livelihoods, but you are improving the well-being of your community by creating economic activity and employment.

“Thus, having a sustainable and proactive approach towards development, towards consumption and production of goods and services is vital.”

Minister Koya reminded the farmers that in doing so, they were contributing a great deal to the Fijian economy.

“And to our overall commitments in meeting the Sustainable Development Goals on clean water and sanitation, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, sustainable cities and communities and responsible consumption and production. So you see, the impact extends well beyond the local communities.

“Coming back to today’s event, I am convinced that great days lie ahead of our beloved Korovou town – great opportunities to generate more economic activities and providing more employment opportunities,” he said.

“This once sleepy town is coming alive with a number of major projects in the recent years. However, with today’s opening, Korovou town will not bring life to the Province of Tailevu, but to the other nearby Provinces as well.

“Korovou is powering ahead. Rewa and Naitasiri are powering ahead. And anyone who hasn’t visited this part of Fiji for a decade or so will be amazed at the transformation this new infrastructure is bringing. There’s a new buzz in the air. A feeling of optimism. And that buzz is sweeping the entire country.”
