Last week, the Europe Union Council began the lifting of travel restrictions to selected third countries.
When asked whether Fiji would be included in the list, Ambassador of the European Union for the Pacific, Sujiro Seam says travel between Fiji and European Union countries is currently difficult as there are no planes traveling between EU and Fiji.
Countries not currently on the list will have the opportunity to be included, however this will depend on their health and socioeconomic conditions.
This ease of travel to the EU is a progressive re-opening of non-essential travels like tourism.
This list of third countries will be reviewed every two weeks and updated by the European Council.
Australia and New Zealand are amongst these 15 listed countries, however this will be subject to the pandemic’s containment measures within the country.
Due to the non availability of plans, Fiji’s chances of entering this travel order, seems slim says Ambassador Seam.
Meanwhile, the European Union has assured it will continue to support Fiji and the Pacific recover from the impact of COVID-19.
