A major fire broke out last night at the University of the South Pacific’s Laucala Campus.

Fire fighters have been working endlessly since last night til this morning to fight the burning blaze.

A major fire that broke out last night had prevented around fifty staff of the University of the South Pacific, from going to work today.

The University confirms that no student or staff of the University was injured or harmed at the time of the fire.

In a statement, the University confirmed that there were alternative arrangements made for the affected staff.

An inside source confirms that the University’s Moodle server was affected by the fire and the website is currently down.

However, the team is working on restoring the site through its back up server.

Levels 2 and 3 of the building have been seriously damaged.

The fire had spread to all three levels of the building and has affected the Student Administrative Services which deals with students admission, registration, student data and record management, examinations and associated support services in scholarship managements.

The NFA received a phone call about the fire incident at 11.33pm.

NFA arrived at the scene 10 minutes later and the fire team saw Levels 2 and 3 of the building fully engulfed in flames.

Five fire trucks were engaged to put out the fire.

Quick action by the firefighters stopped short the fire from destroying the whole building and from spreading any further.
