FIRST-time entrants Motibhai Group has won its second pool match beating a star-studded Carpenters Finance side by 3-0 in the second phase of the second round of pool games in the Ovaltine Suva Business House Futsal Soccer League at the National Hockey Centre in Laucala Bay on Friday night.
In their first pool match played two-weeks-ago, the side beat UB Freight by 1-0 to register their first win in the competitions.
The games which are normally held on Tuesday evenings was pushed back to Friday due to the prevailing bad weather in the capital city.
With 32 teams participating in this year’s Ovaltine Suva Business House Futsal Soccer League, each round of games is played in two phases whereby 16 teams participate in each phase over a period of two weeks.
“The win against Carpenters Finance is not a coincidence,” Motibhai Group team director Ajay Bhan who scored two goals in the match said.
Shekar Reddy also scored a goal against Carpenters Finance securing a 3-nil win for Motibhai Group.
“We have been working very hard and training for the last three weeks,” Mr Bhan added.
“The friendly games played against many good teams over the weeks has helped our boys boost their fitness level and the results are before us,” Mr Bhan said.
He said since these are early days, the team will not get overjoyed with two back-to-back wins but rather focus on the coming pool games instead.
The side meets the Ministry of Economy in its next pool match in two week’s time.
Tournament organiser Alan Kumar said it was very encouraging to see the smooth flow of games so far and he expects the event to pick up greater momentum in coming weeks.
“Despite the bad weather hanging over the Suva sky for a week, we managed to successfully complete the second round of games and weather permitting, our first phase of round three will kick-off next week whereby the first batch of sixteen teams will battle in their respective pool games,” Mr Kumar said.
“Altogether 35 goals were scored and two red cards were flashed. It was a hive of activity as the hockey business house games were also played at the same venue. This attracted a lot of people.
“All teams are coming prepared now as the competition is getting tough. Thanks to Ovaltine for the timely support to make this tournament the talk of the town.
“We can also see great support from the management of teams participating and that shows our tournament is getting bigger and better.
“As tournament organizer, my message to all teams is to play safe and display good sportsmanship as you represent your company’s image as well so playing according to the rules we have set is very important.”
