New Zealand based company, Dollar Things (variety retail brand) opened its first shop in Fiji recently at the newly refurbished Damodar Complex at Scott Street, investing $700,000 on the new outlet and plans to invest $500,000 more, a total of $1.2 million.
Dollar Things is a one stop shop for everyone’s needs, from hair accessories, stationery, hardware, kitchenware, toys, party accessories and equipment, homeware and footwear.
The company has 21 shops across New Zealand and were keen to open a shop in Fiji.
Dollar Things director, Andy Yoo stated there are many variety shops in Fiji but there wasn’t much ‘variety’ in the product range.
“We saw a big opportunity for a better retail experience and connected with Investment Fiji for the setup of the business. The approval process and registration was handled well by the Investment Fiji team. I believe there is lot of room for improvement in terms of customer retail experience in Fiji and to identify the unique needs of the Fijians and be prepared to commit and adapt to the Fijian market.”
The company currently has nine employees in Fiji and plans to open another 10 shops in the country in three years in the West and Labasa.
Investment Fiji’s Facilitation Team through its business facilitation objective has assisted the business with after-care services to obtain relevant licenses to operate in Fiji. The Facilitation Team will continue to assists the company to expand the business venture and open more outlets in Fiji.
