A new Fulton Hogan Hiways quarry, based at Nukubalavu in Bua, will boost road works on Vanua Levu, benefiting roads that serve over three thousand people.

Located just seven kilometres away from Nabouwalu, and leased from the Mataqali Valelevu in Bua, the new quarry began full operations in February this year, after supporting road building materials arrived.

Quarry Supervisor – Isimeli Tuiloma says, not only does using the hard rock sourced from the quarry provide a better quality of material than that sourced from rivers, there is a reduction of the environmental impact on river ecosystems and water quality, for people living downstream.

Some of the Fiji Roads Authority’s major access routes that will benefit from materials sourced from the new quarry – include the main Nabouwalu road, the Nasolo junction, and other roads such as Solevu and Kubulau.
