THE donation of new medical equipment by the People’s Republic of China will boost early detection of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) in Fiji.

While receiving the equipment worth USD$17,000 (FJD$36,145.70) Minister for Health and Medical Services Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete commended the Chinese Government and the World Health Organisation (WHO) for their assistance.

Minister Waqainabete said this assistance will be essential for nurses and doctors in the primary health care unit in their early detection of NCD related cases amongst Fijians.

“It will enable early detection and management of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, chronic respiratory diseases and cancer also it will prevent life threatening complications like heart attacks, stroke and, kidney failure, amputation and blindness.”

The equipment include blood pressure monitors, stethoscope, weigh scales and blood glucose monitors are essential equipment for doctors and nurses.
