The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) recently received a cheque donation of eight thousand dollars ($8,000) from the Think Pacific foundation in Fiji towards Tropical Cyclone Harold relief efforts.
Receiving the donation, Ms. Vasiti Soko, NDMO Director, relayed the appreciation of the Fijian Government and commended the tremendous work undertaken by Think Pacific in the Fijian communities.
Director Soko said the NDMO will ensure that the donation is used to assist the most vulnerable communities affected by TC Harold. Think Pacific Co-founder, Mr. Harry Hunter said “We are working with rural communities and partnering with local Ministries and organizations here in Fiji.
Through our programs and projects, the International students and volunteers who come to Fiji, learn a lot and are able to develop personally and professionally through their time and experiences shared by working with women and youth groups and within schools”.
Mr. Hunter also mentioned that throughout his stay here in Fiji, it was phenomenal to witness the resilience of Fijian communities. He further added that it is a privilege for Think Pacific foundation to provide donations towards rebuilding Fijian communities impacted by TC Harold.
The NDMO continues to build on strategic partnerships to manage both risks and impacts of disasters which is an underlying principle in the National Disaster Risk Reduction Policy.
