Midshipman Esita Batiniqila and Midshipman Samuela Logavatu earlier today were handed their scholarship for a four years study at the Peoples Liberation Army in China. The two were congratulated and hosted for morning tea by the Chinese Ambassador to Fiji His Excellency (H.E) Qian Bo in the presence of the Fiji Chief of Navy Commander Humphrey Tawake.
The pair who enlisted into the Republic of Fiji Navy Squadron (RFNS) earlier this year will undergo Navy Officers training in China and are set to leave for studies next week.
Speaking at the Chinese Embassy in Nasese H.E Qian Bo stated that the scholarship was another opportunity of co-operation between the PLA and RFMF and has been on-going for the past few years. H.E Qian Bo congratulated the pair and was sure that after the completion of studies the two young officers would bring about good changes.
His Excellency also highlighted that China as a steadfast and reliable developing partner in Fiji will continue as a strategic partner to support and work together with the country in the future.
Chief of Navy Commander Tawake thanked His Excellency and said that the event was another milestone between the genuine defence co-operation of the PLA and RFMF. Furthermore he stated that the handing over of the scholarship was a good opportunity that would not only benefit the pair but the country as a whole.
