The Ministry of Waterways and Environment today launched its five year 2020-2025 National Biodiversity Action Plan, setting objectives on how to meet its environmental commitments over this five year period.
The five-year plan, which has been developed through extensive consultation, sets out an ambitious vision on how the Waterways and Environment Ministry will work in partnership with experts and key stakeholders to conserve Fiji’s biodiversity.
While launching the five year plan, the Minister for Waterways and Environment Hon. Dr. Mahendra Reddy said it was aligned to commitments for the conservation of Biological Diversity to deliver environmental objectives for 2020-2025.
“This document is the product from a visionary process culminating in a bold, forward thinking plan focusing on environmental protection, conservation, institutional and Industry practice excellence reflected in our communities for the benefit of all Fijians,”
“The National Biodiversity Action Plan (2020-2025) recognizes crucial national resources and further highlights practical ways forward for addressing gaps in our knowledge, particularly with regards to better understanding our specific conservation needs.
Minister Reddy further reiterated the Plan will strengthen the sustainable use, management and protection of the country’s biodiversity.
Minister Reddy said the Plan reflected the vision for Fiji’s National Development Plan and incorporated principles of Fiji’s Green Growth Framework that recognizes the cross-cutting nature of much development issues and promotes working together in a more integrated and inclusive ways towards sustainable development.
