Nasilai village is the first recipient of the 23 footer fibreglass boat and 75 horsepowered engine that the Ministry of Fisheries had allocated through their rural fisheries project.
Officiating at the hand over of the boat and engine the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry Craig Strong says that the villagers must ensure that they protect their marine resources.
He encouraged the villagers to collaborate with the ministry and communicate openly.
Strong also mentioned that not only Nasilai is the first recipient of the boat and engine through the ministries initiative but they also the first to have the ministries logo.
The boat and engine was bought from Fiji’s share of the US Tuna Treaty Funds which support project development for Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) members of which Fiji is a member of.
