The Nadi U16 football side defeated Ba U16 3-2 in the dreaded penalty kicks at the Fiji FA Academy ground this afternoon to win the Vodafone U16 Youth League Western Zone.
Both teams remained score-less after completing the mandatory 90 minutes and 15 minutes each side of extra spell. Nadi goalkeeper Patro Varo displayed a man-of-the-match performance after making some heroic saves and denied goal scoring opportunities for Ba on numerous occasions throughout the match.
Penalty kicks sequence:Nabil Begg was successful on his first kick for Ba. Rainal Deo equalized for Nadi and went on to be the goalkeeper for the remaining kicks. Penasoni Tirani’s shot went over the cross bar before Eneriko Matau gave Nadi a 2-1 advantage.
Navinesh Sharma’s shot came off the right post while Nadi’s Farhan Ali could not take advantage as he was denied by Ba’s Ilisoni Koro.
Arshad Hussein equalized for Ba but Rynal Narayan brought Nadi back into the lead.It was down to Mohammed Mobeen with his do-or-die kick for Ba and Nadi’s Rainal Deo rose to the occasion and beautifully stopped Ba’s final kick as Nadi walked out victors.
