Nadi is the only team at this year’s Punjas Battle of the Giants tournament that won all its matches to qualify for the semi-finals with 9 maximum points.
Coach Kamal Swamy praised his players for working very hard in group matches maintaining an unbeaten run.
The Jetsetters topped Group B with 9 maximum points after defeating Navua 4-1, Rewa 1-0 and Lautoka 3-2.
Swamy said the players lifted their performance in every game and stuck well to the game plan.
“In the first match against Navua there were a lot of mistakes and our passes were not connecting. But against Rewa, things got better and players could easily spot each other in open and clear positions.”
“In the last game against Lautoka, I tested some bench players and they were also impressive so all in all, we improved game by game and come the semifinals, we should be prepared.”
He also spoke highly about Captain Avinesh Suwamy.
“Avi is a born leader. He has tons of experience. He is a player that every coach would love to have in his team as he is very dedicated, disciplined and passionate when it comes to football.”
“He has guided the team very well in this tournament and has also scored some fantastic goals. I am surely expecting to see more from him in the semifinals,” Swamy added.
The All in One Builders (NZ) sponsored- Nadi will face Flow Valves/Island Accommodation sponsored- Suva in the second semifinal at 4pm on Saturday at Lautoka’s Churchill Park.
