Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development, Waterways and Environment, Dr Mahendra Reddy has urged every Fijian to join the Government’s effort in banning the single use plastic bags.
Speaking at the Talanoa Sessions with farmers groups in Nadi today, Minister Reddy informed the farmers of the dangers of such plastic bags on our environment- especially the marine ecosystem.
“The idea is to move away from plastic bags and move towards biodegradable bags in the effort to protect our environment.”
Various studies have shown there will be more plastics in the oceans than fish.
The Talanoa Session also provided a unique opportunity for farmers to raise various issues and concerns directly with the Minister himself.
Talanoa Sessions were held with the farmers from Tunalia/Marasa, Nabila, and Sariyawa in Nadi area.
