Since 2015 around one hundred women have graduated in Hydroponics Farming from the Makoi Women’s Vocational Training Centre .
Hydroponics farming is a planting method using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil.
Head of the Hydroponics Farming course Pravina Naidu is encouraging women to join the institution and learn a life-long skill that will help them improve their livelihood.
The centre which trains women from under-privileged society for free has produced graduates who now have businesses of their own.
The course also encourages women to recycle plastics and use whatever is available at home.
Women are taught the process of using water for farming and later sell the produce that helps in the day to day running of the center.
Five women will be graduating with a certificate in hydroponics farming this Thursday after 8 weeks of training.
